Your Insurance Questions Answered
We've helped hundreds of homeowners navigate the claim process. Here's what you need to know.
General Claim Questions
Will my rates go up if I file a claim?
Storm claims (wind, hail, ice) are Acts of God. Premiums usually rise across the whole area whether you file or not. Filing ensures you at least get the repairs you're paying for.
Can my insurance drop me if I file?
Not for a single valid storm claim. They can only non-renew if a property is poorly maintained or if there are repeated claims for different issues in a short time.
Will I pay anything besides my deductible?
By law, the deductible is the only homeowner cost. Anything beyond that should be covered by the claim unless upgrades are chosen.
What if my claim gets denied?
Denials are common on the first try. That's why we document, pull test shingles, cite code, and push for reinspections. Many denials are overturned.
What if insurance only pays partial?
We supplement with missing items, code upgrades, and manufacturer requirements. Our job is to get them to pay for the full restoration, not patchwork.
Contractor & Process Questions
Do I have to use their recommended contractor?
No. By law, you choose your own contractor. Insurance cannot dictate who does the work.
Why sign your insurance support form?
It allows us to talk directly to your carrier. Without it, we can't negotiate or provide documentation on your behalf.
How long does the process take?
Usually 30–60 days from inspection to build, depending on the carrier. Some cases can go longer if supplements or reinspections are needed.
What about repairs vs. replacement?
Repairs often void warranties and don't restore to pre-damage condition. If shingles are discontinued or fail brittle tests, insurance must pay for full replacement.
Do I pay you upfront?
No. We don't get paid until the insurance approves and pays for the work. Homeowners only pay their deductible.
Coverage & Damage Questions
What damage does insurance cover?
Wind, hail, ice dams, fallen trees, water intrusion from storm damage, and sometimes chimney/fireplace issues related to storm exposure.
What about siding, gutters, or interior?
If caused by the same storm event, those are included. Insurance is responsible for restoring the property to pre-damage condition.
What if the roof is old?
Age doesn't disqualify a claim. If the storm caused new damage, insurance still pays. The carrier might adjust for depreciation, but replacement cost benefits restore that when work is completed.
What if I've had claims before?
Multiple unrelated claims in a short period can affect eligibility, but one storm claim typically won't.
What if I don't file right away?
Yes, you could lose coverage. Most policies require "prompt notice." Waiting too long can give the carrier an excuse to deny the claim.

Get Free InspectionDon't Believe These Myths
These common misconceptions prevent homeowners from getting the coverage they deserve
"I don't want to bother insurance, it's not that bad"
The Truth
Even small damage worsens over time. Filing ensures it's fixed before leaks and wood rot cause bigger, uncovered problems.
"Insurance already sent someone; they said it's fine"
The Truth
Adjusters work for the carrier. They often miss or downplay damage. That's why you need a contractor to advocate for you.
"I'll get dropped if I file"
The Truth
This is the biggest myth. You won't get dropped for one storm claim.
"I'll wait until I sell the house"
The Truth
Buyers and inspectors often catch the damage, and then insurance won't cover it because it wasn't filed in time.
"A claim will hurt my home's value"
The Truth
Actually, a new roof increases value, curb appeal, and warranty protection.
