What A Gapped Soffit Lets In

One dropped panel and the eave becomes habitat — birds and squirrels move into the overhang, wasps build in the cavity, and wind-driven rain reaches framing that was never meant to see water. Vinyl and aluminum panels drop when their channels loosen or fascia backing softens; wood soffit rots from gutter overflow above. We re-secure what’s sound, replace what isn’t, and close the habitat for good.

Repair Is The Moment To Fix Intake

Half the soffits we repair were suffocating the attic before they broke — solid panels where vented belonged, or vents painted and insulation-blocked shut. Since repair opens the eave anyway, it’s the free moment to restore real intake: vented panels sized to the attic’s needs, baffles holding insulation back, feeding the ventilation loop that decides ice dams and shingle life above.

FAQ

Siding Questions, Answered Honest

A soffit panel fell down — is that urgent?+

Reasonably — every open week invites tenants and weather. It is also usually a quick, inexpensive fix at this stage; the expensive version is after the squirrels renovate.

Something is living in my soffit — now what?+

Eviction before enclosure, humanely and legally — we coordinate timing so nothing gets sealed inside, then close the entry so the lease is not renewed.

Why does my soffit keep getting wet?+

Look up: overflowing or back-spilling gutters are the usual irrigation source. We fix the water source with the soffit, or the repair rebooks itself.

What happens if soffit is damaged?+

The eave becomes habitat — birds, squirrels and wasps move in, wind-driven rain reaches framing, and attic intake ventilation dies at that section.

How do you get animals out of the soffit?+

Eviction before enclosure — humanely, legally, and with timing so nothing gets sealed inside — then the entry closes so the lease never renews.

What is the soffit on a house?+

The underside surface of the roof overhang — the ceiling of your eaves — usually vented panels that feed the attic’s intake air.

Why are there bees or wasps in my soffit?+

Gaps and dropped panels open the cavity, and enclosed voids are prime nest real estate — eviction plus sealing ends the tenancy.

Vented or solid soffit — which do I need?+

Vented wherever the attic needs intake (most of the perimeter) — solid panels where venting is redundant. Wrong-panel installs are half the suffocated attics we fix.
