InsuranceSupplements
The Real Final Number
The first estimate is written fast, from software, often from photos. The supplement is where the claim gets corrected to what the work actually requires — and it’s the part we’re best at.
Insurance Supplements done properly comes down to components most quotes never mention: depreciation, the scope of loss and line-item pricing. We inspect each before pricing, photograph what we find, and put the scope in writing so you see exactly what you're paying for. Licensed and insured across Ohio, Pennsylvania and New York.

What is an insurance supplement?
A supplement is a request to revise an approved claim when the original scope missed work the repair actually requires. Hidden damage found after tear-off, code-required items, and trades omitted from the first estimate are typical grounds. It is a documentation process, not a negotiation, and it is supported with photographs, measurements and code citations. Related: roof insurance claims and recoverable depreciation.

Corrections, Not Extras
A supplement isn’t asking for more — it’s documenting what the estimate missed: the drip edge and ice barrier the code requires, the steep/high charges for the actual roof, detach-and-reset on gutters, the siding elevation the matching rule brings in, decking that can’t hold fasteners. Every added line carries its evidence: photo, measurement, or code citation. Carriers process supplements daily — it’s a normal, expected part of claims, and the homeowners who never supplement simply fund the gap themselves.
Code Items & Overhead + Profit
Two levers move real money. Code-required upgrades — items current code demands that the old roof lacked — are compensable under ordinance-and-law coverage and get skipped constantly. And on losses involving three or more trades, general-contractor overhead and profit (10% + 10%) is industry-standard compensation for coordination — a claim covering roof, siding and gutters that shows 0% O&P is underpaid by definition. Our K and K results were built supplement by supplement.

Claim Documentation From The Field

Claim Questions, Answered Like We File Them
When should a supplement be filed?+
After the initial estimate and before or during the work as conditions surface — hidden decking damage found at tear-off is a classic mid-job supplement.
Does supplementing delay my project?+
Documentation runs parallel to scheduling; most supplements resolve without moving the install date. A short wait beats funding the gap yourself.
What’s O&P and do I qualify?+
Overhead and profit — the 10%+10% a general contractor earns coordinating multi-trade work. Three or more trades on one loss is the standard threshold; we apply it at claim level wherever the loss qualifies.
The carrier rejected a supplement line — over?+
Rarely. Rejections get answered with better evidence or escalated through re-inspection and appeal — the same file keeps working.
Why was my insurance estimate so low?+
First estimates are written fast from software defaults — missed code items, skipped steep charges, absent O&P. Supplements exist because carriers expect corrections.
Can a contractor negotiate with my insurance company?+
On scope and documentation, continuously — that’s supplement work. Coverage decisions stay between you and the carrier; evidence is where we move the number.
Do supplements delay my insurance payout?+
The supplemented portions process on their own track — approved base scope proceeds meanwhile, and most projects schedule without waiting.
What is Xactimate and why does it matter?+
The estimating platform most carriers price claims in — supplements that speak its line-item language get processed; narrative letters get filed. Ours are built to match the system reviewing them.
