What does a chimney inspection look at?
An inspection covers the cap and crown, the flue and liner condition, the mortar joints, the flashing where the chimney meets the roof, and any interior signs of moisture. Flashing is the most common leak source, and the failure usually shows up as a stain on the ceiling near the chimney rather than at the chimney itself. What The Roof-Level Look Covers
From the roof we see what binoculars can’t: cap presence and condition, crown cracking up close, joint recession and early spalling on all four faces, flashing seal and tar-archaeology status, and efflorescence — the white mineral bloom that testifies to water moving through masonry. Each layer gets a grade and a photo; you get the report whether or not any work follows.
